The problem is that the installer is attempting to create a key in the registry and is not able to do so because of the virus scanner (McAfee in my case).<BR/><BR/>Disable your anti-virus software, manually create key:SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins<BR/>@Microsoft.com/NpCtrl,version=1.0\Suffixes<BR/>(no, I don't know why it needs to do this) and then run the Silverlight installation program.<BR/><BR/>

I would recommend uninstalling all Silverlight related items on your machine. Once you have uninstalled all Silverlight items, I would recommend going through each step, one-by-one, on http://www.silverlight.net/getstarted.

I am getting the same error, same situation, VS2008 SP1 isntalled, silverlight tools will not install

Installed Silverlight 2 with no problems on two computers.<BR/><BR/>Then tried to install Silverlight_Tools.exe on both. I have VS 2008 SP1 installed and working fine.<BR/><BR/>Both installations of the Tools failed, at the same place with the usual mysterious error code, <BR/>0x80070643.
