Silverlight - A Gold Medal Winner

During the Consumer Electronics Show keynote presentation, Bill Gates announced that Silverlight will exclusively be used by NBC for the 2008 Beijing Olympics!

This is REALLY cool. This should definately help to get Silverlight installed on more individuals machines. You can find out more about the announcement here.

Well, that's great news. Too bad China continues to occupy Tibet and these Olympics will be widely boycotted.

This whole idea of getting a massive number of consumers to download the runtime from the start of SL, is a great or very bad idea. Great, because we as developers don't have to carry the burden of forcing people to download the runtime. Bad idea will be, if SL is buggy and slow and causes unpleasant experience for consumer. Then it becomes more of a burden for us (developers) to cope with that.
Sofar based on my performance tests I've done on SL 1.0 and 1.1 v.s. Flash, SL falls on it's face if you have more than one animation going on a web page. It kills the machine, but I've seen a web page with 3 animated flash banners and flash video running at the same time. So, I hope SL 2.0 will solve the performance issue.

Duh, NBC already has a relationship with MS so it's not much of a victory. It's called MSNBC.

Man, you guys are so negative! Silverlight will rule! It's only a matter of time... The technology has wings, and it's well though out. Flash, in my experience is not so responsive! Lot's of Flash sites are poorly designed and slow, goes the same for badly designed Silverlight sites!

Duh already...
